7 Interesting Facts You Didn't Know About Your Brain

Human brain still remains a secret to researchers, neurologists and physicians worldwide. It is believed that we use only a part of our brain, but nobody knows yet exactly how much and what happens to the rest. What possible behavior or feelings hide that unknown areas? How can be explained the nervous system and neurological diseases, mental diseases, or why not, the intelligence?

Here are some of the most interesting things a few people know about their brain:

1. The brain, faster than...the thought?
It is believed that the thought has one of the highest speeds, and yet ... Let me give you an example to understand clearly what's all about: sometimes it happens to stumble over something and, in less than 1 second, our body succeeds to take a defensive position; thus, it interprets the three-dimensional changes, identifying the organs that can help it restore its balance. In the end, it sends us the necessary signals for moves.
How is that possible? It seems that the speed with which information circulates between neuronal synapses is very high, reaching more than 270km / h.

2. The brain is more active at night
After all the activities that take place during the day, we are tempted to believe that most of the brain's functions are active in all this time. However, studies haven't been able to explain the mechanisms behind this amazing result, but they believe that the intense cerebral activity during sleep is due to cellular and energetic processes. Basically, a physical, emotional and psychological rebalancing takes place every night.

3. As higher our IQ is, as more you dream
Given the explanation from point 2, this conclusion seems logical. As more our brain manages to acquire and process information, as more it needs to process, inhibit or release the excess through dreams. Thus, dream interpretation is somehow true: if you think in the morning about what you dreamed, you can find out more about the tension accumulated by your subconscious, tension that can affect your life.

4. Neurons are renewable and continue to grow as long as we live
It was considered for more than a hundred years that neurons are not renewable. Subsequently, recent studies concluded that the vast majority of neurons grow and develop until the age of 7; that's why a child needs to have all sorts of activities that can stimulate his intellectual skills. Later, other studies highlighted that some neurons are regenerated even at 2 weeks; this can explain the olfactory function - we get used with new smells every day.

5. The brain can not feel pain
Although it represents the center of perception and interpretation of pain, the nervous material itself presents no receptors for pain. You probably think: what about headaches or cerebral tumors? These pains affect the nervous tissues, having a vascular nature.

6. The brain is the biggest consumer of energy
Although it represents only 2% of the body weight, the brain needs 15% of the total quantity of blood and 20% of the amount of oxygen to function, as well as a large amount of glucose in order to be active.

7. We use more than 10% of the brain
It is believed that we use about 7% of the brain, while Einstein used 10%. But researchers have come to the conclusion that at any moment our brain has a more or less intense activity, but at least one basic activity. Practically, there is no inactive area in the brain and each part is intensively activated in certain situations. Also, our ability to store information in memory is huge, as human brain cells can store five times more information than Encyclopedia Britannica!
